SoilFood™ Dehydrator Launches at Te Pae Christchurch

At Sustainably, we are excited to celebrate Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre's remarkable strides in sustainability throughout 2022.  Earlier this year Te Pae was awarded a Gold Sustainable Tourism Business Award from Qualmark, and more recently it has forged innovative partnership in which it supplies ‘soil food’ generated by its SoilFood™ dehydrator to the Canterbury Community Garden Association (CCGA).

Award Winning Efforts

Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre has proudly received a Gold Sustainable Tourism Business Award from Qualmark, further enhancing its sustainability credentials.  This achievement builds on its Toitū enviromark gold certification and highlights its commitment to safe and sustainable operations. Central to this success is the innovative SoilFood™ dehydrator, provided by Sustainably, which plays a key role in the Centre’s waste minimisation efforts. Qualmark’s recognition of Te Pae Christchurch as a leader in sustainable tourism underscores its dedication to best practices across economic, environmental, and cultural dimensions.  We at Sustainably are thrilled to play a role in Te Pae’s journey toward a more sustainable future.

A Winning Partnership

Further solidifying its commitment to sustainable operations, Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre has partnered with the Canterbury Community Garden Association (CCGA) to supply nutrient dense product generated by its on-site SoilFood™ dehydrator. Rachel Vogan, Capacity Builder at the CCGA, emphasised the significance of reusing waste products to create a pathogen-free organic fertiliser, benefiting the 52 community gardens they support. The SoilFood™ dehydrator, provided by Sustainably, processes up to 200 kilograms of food waste daily at Te Pae, transforming unsuitable excess food into nutrient-rich SoilFood™. This initiative not only reduces waste but also exemplifies the Centre's dedication to fostering a circular economy and supporting local agriculture. Sustainably is proud to be involved in this impactful project and to supply the technology that helps turn waste into a valuable resource for the community.
