Our History
Quick Skips & Total Waste Solutions
Sustainably was developed in 2020 as a division of Total Waste Solutions, a canterbury owned and operated waste services business. Total Waste Solutions was founded as Quick Skips on 2004 by Paul and Jan East, who had sold their South Canterbury farm to return to Christchurch. Quick Skips offered customers quick service, quick smart and soon became a leading supplier of skips for the Building and Construction Industry. Quick Skips experienced huge growth following the 2010/2011 Christchurch Earthquakes and the subsequent rebuild that followed. By 2014 they had 5 trucks and team of 9 staff.
In 2017, Rob and Aimy East joined the business as the 2nd generation leadership. Diversifying the service offering into Frontload, Wheelie bin and Event services the company soon became more than just Quick Skips – they now offered Total Waste Solutions. The team increased to 21 and the fleet to 10 trucks.
Our Sustainability Journey
With significant results diverting waste from landfill at Events leading the CFPE programme (Composting Food Packaging at Events), commercial customers soon started asking for help to divert waste from landfill. Rob and Aimy began researching local and global best-practice solutions and Sustainably was born. Sustainably became the local distributors for Orwak Balers©, Longopac© Bagging solutions, SoilFood™ food dehydrators and also offered waste auditing services for customers. Sustainably supported a number of landfill diversion initiatives including the establishment of a commercial compostable food packaging programme in Christchurch, collecting compostable food packaging from cafes and other commercial customers to be composted at Canterbury Landscapes Supplies.
In April 2022, the traditional waste collection business of Total Waste Solutions was sold to WasteCo, and Sustainably became its own company in May 2022. Now we specialise in providing best practice and fit for purpose solutions and services that help businesses improve their triple bottom line – people, planet and prosperity.
